Brewing School at Eastfield College Dallas, TX


We are pleased to announce the start of a formal brewing education program at the DCCCD the Dallas County Community College District at Eastfield Community College in Dallas. The goal is to provide much-needed education in the field of brewing and malting. There will be a variety of brewing classes offered throughout the year.

The classes will range from:

A Journeyman Brewer Class to the advanced Technical Brewer Certification program. Additional classes will be “Introduction to Brewing”; “Craft Malting” and a “Diploma Brewing Certificate” course will be added.

This will give professionals an opportunity to expand their education in the world of brewing science.

Journeyman Brewer

This is an educational program tailored to the needs of Micro, Craft and Industrial Brewing personnel working within the production side of the brewing industry. This program will teach basic understanding in all aspects of the brewing process including machinery and equipment for packaging. It will provide the students with essential knowledge of the raw material used in the brewing process and it will educate the students in technical and technological aspects of the entire brewing process.This course will also include an introduction to basic quality control analysis.

This course includes a two-week practical brewing Internship at a local brewery where the students will be immersed into the day-to-day brewery operations.

After passing a final examination the successful student will be highly qualified for a responsible brewer position within the brewing industry. This course is also ideal for passionate home-brewers who seek to get their foot into the door of professional brewing at the same time remaining relevant to current brewery personnel.

 Journeyman Brewers Program Schedule:

Course duration:  6 weeks total: Classroom session  4 weeks held Tuesday through Thursday from 9 am to 3 pm with 1 hour break for lunch. Practical work experience:  2 weeks (10 days) at local breweries.

Prerequisites: High School Diploma

 Total cost Journeyman Brewer: $ 3600.00

Technical Brewer Certification program:

This is an online program!

The Technical Brewer Certification program is an advanced educational program in Brewing Technology and Brewing Operations Management. It is tailored to the needs of Leadership in the Brewing Industry and provides the necessary theoretical and practical background for Lead Brewers and Head Brewers to successfully manage and Lead Brewing Operations. The Technical Brewer Certification program consists of 2 classes. The Applied Brewing Science Class and the Advanced Brewing Practices Class.

Applied Brewing Science ($ 2400).
This advanced brewing course will provide the students with a deeper understanding of the technical, technological and quality aspects of the brewing process. It will cover the entire brewing process from raw materials and brew house technology to fermentation-technology as well as the filtration and packaging process. Students will also gain a deeper understanding of Quality Management systems, as well as cleaning and sanitation practices with the ability to apply these skills within brewing operations.

Advanced Brewing Practices ($2600).
This course will teach detailed knowledge and the skills necessary to effectively lead and manage the daily operations of a production brewery emphasizing the practical operational side of brewing management and leadership tasks. It will cover advanced scheduling techniques, proper reconciliation and efficiency calculation throughout the production areas, understanding and monitoring of key process indicators as well as process optimizations and Project Management.

21 years or older
Completion of the Journeyman Brewer Certificate (or equivalent) or pass an assessment test
1 year of practical brewing experience

$5,000 (Includes Applied Brewing Science and Advanced Brewing Practices Courses)
